X-Ray Fluorescence

JFP Technical Services, Inc. uses a portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
materials analyzer to provide NONDESTRUCTIVE testing at your location or in
our lab. This is fast, accurate, affordable, highly mobile and unobtrusive,
yet it yields critical atomic composition data for most elements and
compounds. This is used to assay materials like jewelry for valuation and to
evaluate products from components to toys for (HS&E) Health, Safety and
Environmental impacts.

Our X-ray fluorescence (XRF) materials analyzer provides Positive Material Identification (PMI) to establish the value of precious metal jewelry by providing a very accurate assay of the metallic composition for appraisals. Within minutes we can evaluate samples for Platinum (Pt), Gold (Au), Silver (Ag), and Copper (Cu). Fools Gold (Iron Pyrite) will be discovered in seconds and without the noxious release of Hydrogen Sulfide. Likewise we can help validate the provenance of antiques and antiquities that have compositional characteristics unique to their time and place.

RoHS compliance screening tests - X-Ray Fluorescence screening is one of the fastest and least expensive steps towards RoHS compliance. Many products perfectly comply with RoHS standards, but need RoHS testing documentation for export. We readily test for Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr) and Bromine (Br) in your products, so as to verify compliance to the new European Union (EU) requirements. This test method also meets the "Due Diligence" requirement for compliance, when using purchased materials and components in your products.

Metal sorting - JFP Technical Services, Inc. uses portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to sort and screen metals from scrap and other reclamation approaches. These allow a greater homogeneity in billeting and casting operations. This reduces the costs incurred in cracking out alloying elements to obtain pure metals and to in adding pure metals to create alloys, such as Surgical stainless steel, Chromalloy, Hastelloy, Inconel and Monel.

Lead testing, a special note - JFP Technical Services tests for the presence of lead (Pb) and other hazardous materials in the following consumer products: toys, jewelry, antiques, dishware, glassware, pewter, etc. This testing will help ensure the safety and health of children and adults. We can also detect the presence of lead in paint on site. This is a screening test providing semi quantitative results in ppm concentrations. This is an inexpensive and sound testing method for the screening of painted buildings and for sorting painted items that are Lead-free from those needing further and more expensive testing in remediation projects.

JFP Technical Services uses a hand held Thermo Scientific NITON XLt Analyzer. Portable X-Ray Flouresence was first introduced at the Second International Field Screening Symposium on Field Screening for Hazardous Waste and Toxic Chemicals sponsored by Florida State University and Environmental Monitoring and Screening Lab (EMSL-Las Vegas) in 1991.

Cost of the testing will be based on number and complexity of the product being tested. Travel costs will be added when testing is at remote testing sites. Minimum charge for RoHS XRF Compliance screening testing with a report is $125.00, with the costs starting at $ 75.00 per XRF test, and sample preparation or separation (if needed) starting at $25.00 per test. Volume and repeat testing discounts are available.
